Fraud and Recovery
- Fraud. This Unit investigates allegations of fraud. If fraud is believed to have been committed after a thorough investigation our Investigator, who is contracted through the Sheriff’s Department, will make an arrest and forward the case to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Please contact (607)535-8303 and ask for Fraud & Legal to report suspected fraud.
- Recovery. This Unit is responsible for tracking and recovery of funds due the Department from security deposits, overpayments of assistance, pre-death Medicaid liens, Social Security Interim Assistance, Fraud and Intentional Program Violations, and trusts, among other things.
- Estate recoveries and recoveries of 104-b personal injury liens was contracted out by the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General to HMS, now Gainwell Technologies. - Fair Hearings. This Unit represents the Department at Fair Hearings for the following Units: APS, Child Care, SNAP, HEAP, MA and TA. Fair Hearing requests must be submitted to OTDA in Albany by phone at (800)342-3334, online at https://otda.ny.gov/hearings/, in writing at NYS Office of Administrative Hearings, Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, P.O. Box 1930, Albany, NY 12201, or by fax at (518)473-6730.
